At the 2022 Pebble Beach car show, a new concept was revealed that looked oddly familiar. Named the JZD, short for John Zachary DeLorean, the stunningly futuristic fastback coupe harkened back to an iconic piece of automotive history—the DeLorean DMC-12.
The sleek coupe drew attention from all angles with its retro gullwing doors, luxurious 2+2 interior layout, and altogether striking appearance. DeLorean Next Generation Motors was responsible for developing the concept, although they are unaffiliated with DeLorean Reimagined, who released another concept car at the same show—the Alpha 5. What makes the JZD particularly exciting is Kat DeLorean Seymour's involvement in the project – Mr. DeLorean's daughter – and some of DMC's original engineers too. The current plan is for this vehicle to be completely electric, with a concept completed near the end of January 2023 before a public debut later that year which has fans eagerly awaiting news of updates on this ambitious venture.
The prospect of an advanced vehicle like this entering the public sphere is undeniably captivating: beautiful, powerful, and awe-inspiring yet simultaneously charming and nostalgic – it could be one of those rare combinations of aspects that offer something meaningful between generations.
Until then, however, we'll have to wait until later in 2023 before we can get our hands on what is certainly shaping up to be an incredible new creation from one of history's most celebrated names in motorcars.
